GENERAL:

Quality Standard:
A. All stairs shall be products of one nationally recognized manufacturer specializing in the design, fabrication, finishing and testing of custom spiral stairs, with at least twenty (20) years of experience.
B. Performance standards are to ensure certain levels of performance under all normal conditions. Stairs that do not meet the following standards will not be considered for approval.
Product Performance:
A. Design Loads: Comply with NAAMM AMP 510.
1. Uniform Live Load: 100 lb/sq ft (4.7 kPa).
2. Concentrated Live Load: Minimum 300 lb (1330 N).
3.
Maximum Lateral Load to Handrail Without Permanent Set: 200 lbs (890 N).
B. Codes: Duvinage stairs can be designed to meet any codes you specify.

PRODUCTS:
Materials:
A. Assembled treads and platforms to be manufactured using 3/16” thick steel plate.
B. 3” Scheduled 40 galvanized steel center pole. –See Dimension Table
Fabrication:
A. Fabricate stair to suit adjacent construction with tolerances for installation, including application of joint sealers in joints between stair and adjoining work, if required.
B. Weld structural stair components together, except where bolted or screwed field connections are required. Site welding is not permitted.
1. Weld cantilever, gusset, channel support beams, and other tread supports to full-length hub.
C. Steel and aluminum spiral rails to be continuous and cold formed to match spiral form of stair within specified manufacturer’s minimum factory tolerance. Wood spiral rails to be machined and sanded to match spiral form of stair within specified manufacturer’s minimum factory tolerances.
D. Stair to be pre-assembled at the manufacturing facility, marked and inspected prior to shipment to insure stair construction adheres to specified requirements. On-site assembly to consist of mechanical fastening only, NO FIELD WELDING.

B. Stair Design: Design #141 with 3/16” cantilevered steel top plate and gussets welded to b full-length hub. ¾” Finished thickness red oak covering.

C. Balusters: to be standard ¾” diameter round, formed and milled to fit the curvature of the spiral rail for a clean and neat appearance. Countersunk holes for mechanical connection of spiral rail.

D. Spiral Rail: #145 – 1” Schedule 40 (1.313 O.D.) cold formed steel pipe, drilled and tapped for ¼” x ¾” flat head cap screws. (Also available in other styles)
E. Center Pole and Hubs: Center pole to be in accordance with NAAMM spiral stair standards. All hubs to be machined to exact riser height, so that adjacent hubs will rest flush to one another.
F. Accessories: No. 164 oak cap on top of center pole trim and No. 195 oak base plate cover.
Finishes:
A. General: Finish applied to ALL surfaces, including mounting hardware and integral structural members, in factory after products are assembled. Remove scratches and blemishes from exposed surfaces which will be visible after finishing.
B. Finish: All steel parts to be chemically cleaned and to receive one coat of water based rust inhibitive green primer.
C. Application: By coating manufacturer—licensed formulators and applicators only, proof of licensing for specific costing must be shown in submittal information.
D. Surface Preparation: Preheat metal surfaces with a multi-stage cleaning, pretreatment and chemical conversion coating per coating manufacturer’s recommendations.
EXECUTION:
Installation:
A. General: Install work plumb, level, true and properly align with adjacent work. Rigidly secure with clips, anchors, and bolts as required.
